Hingoli: The long-awaited "Pay and Park" vehicle parking facility at Hingoli Railway Station has finally been inaugurated. The facility was officially launched on the evening of Saturday, December 21, with the ribbon-cutting ceremony conducted by railway passengers.
Since the inception of Hingoli Railway Station, there was no designated parking area for vehicles. Passengers and citizens had repeatedly demanded this facility from the South Central Railway Division, which has now been made operational.
Hingoli Railway Station serves as a key hub on the Purna-Akola route, with two passenger trains, two express trains, and several weekly and bi-weekly trains operating daily. Recently, a daily Janshatabdi Express service to Mumbai was introduced, leading to a significant rise in passenger numbers. Due to the lack of parking facilities, passengers with vehicles often had to leave them at home and rely on expensive auto-rickshaws to reach the station.
This issue was particularly severe for passengers traveling on the Janshatabdi Express, which departs at 4 AM. Auto-rickshaw fares ranged from ₹200 to ₹300, often exceeding the ticket cost for the journey. This situation led to widespread dissatisfaction among travelers and a persistent demand for parking facilities at the station.
Facility Available on Both Platforms
According to Mohammad Sabir, who has taken the parking contract from the South Central Railway Division, the "Pay and Park" facility is now available on platforms 1 and 2. The charges for parking a two-wheeler are ₹10 for six hours and ₹40 for 24 hours. For four-wheelers, the charge is ₹24 for six hours.
To enhance security, CCTV cameras will soon be installed in the parking area, ensuring the safety of vehicles and reducing the risk of theft. Previously, the absence of parking facilities had resulted in several cases of motorcycle theft at the station.
The availability of parking facilities is expected to greatly benefit passengers, particularly government employees and officials who frequently travel to nearby destinations like Washim, Wasmat, and Parbhani. They can now conveniently use their personal vehicles to reach the station and leave them securely parked while traveling.
